The series of key challenges facing the UK construction industry today are captured in two words – leaner and greener.

Leaner because the sector must improve competitiveness through reducing all unnecessary costs in process and product while maintaining high quality performance.

Greener because the sector must recognise that it lies at the very heart of building sustainable communities in which we all live.

Answering these challenges requires both a re-examination of established methodology to seize on lessons learned and improve on past failings as well as a vigorous commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

In this way old and new will work hand-in-hand to secure the future of the sector.
